David L. Peterson, a native of Carpio, N.D., has been in the practice of law for 42 years and joined Larson Latham Huettl Law Firm in 2010 as Of Counsel after retiring from the United States Attorney’s office where he served as an Assistant United States Attorney and Civil Chief for the District of North Dakota. David clerked for the North Dakota Supreme Court, served as an Assistant North Dakota State Attorney General, and was in private law practice in Bismarck for 20 years.

His primary areas of practice are banking, commercial, insurance, personal injury, and medical malpractice litigation. 

David received his B.S.B.A.  degree and a J.D. degree with distinction from the University of North Dakota.  He has held an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbel, Inc. since 1981.  He is a past President of the North Dakota State Bar Association, past President of the North Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, past President of the North Dakota Council of School Attorneys, and served in the ABA House of Delegates for 4 years.  He received the Distinguished Service Award from the State Bar Association in 2008 and the Directors Award for Superior Service from the U.S. Department of Justice in 2003.  He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Attorneys Liability Protection Society including several years as Chairman and has served on the N.D. Parole Board.

David is a veteran of the United States Army and North Dakota National Guard. He is admitted to practice in the North Dakota Supreme Court and all state district courts, United States Federal District Court for the District of North Dakota, United States Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, United States Court of Claims, and the United States Supreme Court.

David is married to his wife Diane and has two married daughters and two grandchildren.
